English Club Relay Champs

August 23rd, 2009 by admin

The airstream tour is at an end and I finalized it by driving up to The Brits for a Relay Race.. super cool event in a Rowing lake.. Each of 4 athletes has to swim 400m one after the other, the 4 then taking the first one who rides the first bike leg, then each rides the 15km bike leg.. you get the picture.. The Planet X team was me, Spencer Smith (2 time world champ), Dan Brown, (top UK mid distance) and one other Brit charger. We went good and I was surprizingly sprite despite the long trip from Cologne and the lack of training the last while. We came off 2nd but due to a small incident between Spencer Smith, a referee and a broken saddle, we got a time penalty that knocked us off the podium.. We were none too happy about the situation as it was ridiculous to enforce such a penalty, but we consider ourselves the rightful runners up and that’s that. I am off for group ride with the Ginger Avenger and his local band of bad boys so I better get some winks… because he might be looking to inflict some pain to repay me for driving his 1987 Ford Escort 105mph on the way to the race this morning.. hahaha… sure to be some killer pix from a wild weekend!! keep watch for some Flickr updates.

Koelsch Celebs

August 19th, 2009 by admin

Ha!! It was a great idea to head up and do a few days training in Cologne. I am back in decent shape and things are looking good for the Autumn races. I also had the chance to meet some pretty kewl individuals through Till Schramm in the meantime. It was an iteresting day of contrast. Yesterday we met the Judo 81kg Olympic Champ and his lovely girlfreind for lunch. I expected to meet a rough solemn brute but was surprised to be sitting with an outgoing, incredibly humble guy. He is 2 weeks out from the Judo world champs in Rotterdam and I wish him well.. super cool guy. Later we were doing a run session in the City Park when some soccer players started cat calling at us… the ring leader turned up to be none other than Germany’s number one striker Lucas Poldoski! Ha ha.. funny that an even higher paid athlete still acts like a kid, I was actually rather flattered that they paid any attention to us but decided to show them a Canadian bear skin for kicks! hahaha
Anyway, I have been really impressed with this city, the training venues it offers and an incredibly friendly vibe (and not only by german standards! hahah). Till has proven to be a very training partner and he and his wife fantastic hosts.
I am off to England tomorrow after we do a hard brick session in the morning, but I will definately back to see what else the city has to offer.

End of the Airstream tour, beginning of the next training block.

August 16th, 2009 by admin

I am already part of the way to england and taking a few days in Koeln in to train with a freind and up and comer Till Schramm. Koeln (cologne) is a really cool city and am having a look around as well. I have had quite a long spell without training because I was about to get started two weeks ago, then had a tooth taken out, when then got infected, and cost me another entire week. The bod is definately well recoverd but I go to take my time and look ahead to the next important race at Challenge Barcelona in October. What I can do before then is much less important. The form always seems to come back fast so I am sure to be going good in a few weeks. I was hoping to have packed on some weight having been living the life a little the last few weeks and really trying to get fat, but to my dismay I stood on a weigh scale the other day and was a meagre 71kg.. I wonder how I will ever live up to being a big boy…
The Airstream - Ambrose - Irontour extravaganza was a serious fun time and full of adventures to be rehashed at coffee and dinner times for years. It was a really good way to recover and completely get away from the sport and give the head a rest. It makes one revitalized to get back on it full blast and renewed energy and I think I will be able to put some ridiculous training weeks together in Sept.
Alright, just a shorty today… might rehash an adventure or two in the next week.
